Bronx, N.Y. -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Christie Whitman helped the N.Y. Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announce the first project funded through Clean Air Communities (CAC), a non-profit designed to bring clean air technologies to disenfranchised communities. The first project has been awarded to Sustainable South Bronx, the New York Power Authority and IdleAire Technologies Corp. to install a truck-stop electrification technology system, which will have a 32-truck capacity on a 24-hour-per-day basis. The project is designed to eliminate more than 2,000 tons of pollutants each year from idling trucks.
