Washington, D.C. — A bipartisan group of legislators yesterday introduced the Small Business Liability Protection Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill is designed to exempt small businesses from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enforcement action and from third party lawsuits in Superfund cases where the small business contributed only a small amount of waste to a contaminated site. EPA Administrator Christie Whitman praised the bill, saying, "We have been encouraging Congress to enact legislation to assist EPA in providing relief to small businesses who were unfairly dragged into Superfund sites."
