Two industry surveys on driver vision conducted by The Maintenance Council (TMC), Alexandria, Va., are notable.

The “Environmental Factors in Driver Vision” survey showed that inadequate windshield wipers, headlight glare reflected in the truck's rear view mirrors, oncoming headlight glare, inadequate defrosting capability and inadequate defogging capability most affected driver vision.

The “Promising Techniques” survey highlighted closed-circuit television systems, remote control mirrors, fiber optic views, head-mounted convex mirrors, fender-mounted convex mirrors and convex mirrors below West-Coast mirrors as the most effective.
