Neighbors Told Community Built on Landfill Not Leaking Methane Gas 14062

Methane gas is not leaking from the former Dearington landfill in Lynchburg according to Lynchburg city officials.

About 20 community members met Tuesday night at the Jefferson Park Community Center in Lynchburg to hear those findings. The community center sits on the site of a former city pool that closed in the early 1960s.

That pool and surrounding ravine became a city landfill that was covered with dirt and clay in the late 1960s. Today the park and housing community just up the hill stand on that history.
