The city of Laurel, Md., has reached an agreement with W2 Energy to test a truck featuring technology capable of converting waste to energy. According to a W2 press release, the truck will be able to “convert up to 4 tons per day of municipal solid waste into electricity, ultra low sulfur diesel, gasoline and jet fuel.”

The city currently uses four collection trucks to collect an average of 28 tons of municipal solid waste per day from more than 12,000 residences. If the testing phase proves successful, Laurel will “provide a location where W2 can install a full-size commercial plant to convert all of Laurel’s waste into usable energy,” the press release adds.
