Newhaven Food Waste Facility Plans Paused Following Resident’s Concerns

A new food waste facility was in the works for Newhaven, England but after hearing the concerns from residents, those plans are now on hold.

A new food waste facility was in the works for Newhaven, England but after hearing the concerns from residents, those plans are now on hold.

Residents have spoken out against the new food waste facility, saying they were concerned over added noise, odor, and vermin. The plant was first approved by the Lewes District Council and the plant would have occupied space that was once a household waste recycling site.

“Having heard local people, read the comments and listened to opinions that have been shared with me, it’s clear that the right decision is to put a pause on the proposals,” said Councilor Wendy Maples, cabinet member for neighborhood wellbeing.

“It’s always my belief that we can only arrive at decisions of this importance by taking people with us and that means listening carefully to what they say.”
