Houston Adding More Glass Recycling Drop-off Points

Houston is planning to expand its glass recycling program in the next two weeks.
Back in March, the city agreed to a new contract with Waste Management for its waste and recycling hauling needs. But the deal removed glass recycling from the equation.
Initially, a third grader volunteered to step in. But in June, the city began adding drop-off locations around the city to enable people who wanted to recycle to do so. There are currently eight in place, but they need to be emptied every two or three days due to how quickly they fill up.
So the city is adding more locations to meet the demand.

Some areas are busier than ever.
In the Washington Avenue corridor, boxes turn every 2-3 days.
Right now, there are only eight boxes around town, but the department has been getting requests from other areas and hopes to have those available in the coming weeks.
