Spartanburg County, City to Stop Glass Recycling in March

Beginning on March 1, glass will no longer be accepted at Spartanburg County recycling centers or through the city’s residential curbside recycling collection.

Residents will not be able to take glass to area recycling centers or to put glass in blue roll carts for curbside recycling. Glass recyclables have been accepted in the roll carts since May 2012.

Local waste management officials said the adjustment is due to changes in the recycling marketplace, including a decrease in the price for glass recyclables. This has led to no viable opportunities for the material to be reused.
