Bride And Groom Celebrate A Trashy Wedding

Glendale, Ariz. - A white, 35,000-pound garbage truck decorated with red, yellow and white streamers and surrounded by sanitation and landfill equipment served as the altar for the March wedding of Ron Keshishian and Rhea Hards, according to The Arizona Republic.

The 40-year-old groom, a trash collector, and his bride, 47, exchanged vows in front of more than 100 trash collectors, friends and relatives at the Road-E-O held by the local Glendale, Ariz., chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America, Silver Spring, Md.

Hards, a childcare provider, told the Republic that it wasn't the kind of wedding she had pictured, but after the shock wore off she warmed to the idea. "We'll be talking about this forever," she said.

Quentin Colby, a Glendale justice of the peace, performed the ceremony. Although this was his first trash-truck wedding, Colby said he has married couples on mountains, roller coasters and bicycles.

Keshishian, who has collected waste for the City of Glendale for three years and has been in the waste collection business for 15 years, felt it was only appropriate to take his vows in front of his truck.

"Trash has been my life," he told the Republic.

After saying their "I dos," the newlyweds climbed into the movable altar, drove through the Road-E-O obstacle course and invited guests to a reception at their Glendale home, where Keshishian keeps his collection of 125 toy garbage trucks.
