Florida Governor Rick Scott has said he’s gotten some complaints that counties and cities are being price-gouged by debris contractors.

But the Solid Waste Authority in Palm Beach County says it’s seen no evidence of price-gouging by debris contractors. It has three companies working 12 hours a day, seven days a week to pick up the storm debris.  It has contracted with three other companies as well.

The cleanup process may take up to three months.

CBS12.com has the details:

“We’ve got to get that debris picked up. It’s a health hazard. So I’m asking every county if they’re having any problems with your contractor, go do an emergency procurement and find a new contractor, a vendor to get that done,” Florida Governor Rick Scott said.

The Solid Waste Authority says it’s seen no evidence of price-gouging by debris contractors here.

“We have a deal in place and we’re working with all our haulers as best we can to work on that price,” said Puz.

The county has contracts in place with six storm debris contractors to pick up hurricane debris, and three of them are already here now doing the work.

Homeowners are just glad to see it getting cleared away.
