That's how organizers pitched the cleanup of the La Boca reservoir near Santiago, Mexico, which they dubbed a “trash fishing” contest. The effort was an attempt to thin 600 tons of refuse recently washed into the lake by flash floods. In pursuit of the largest volume of trash, 300 volunteers used rubber gloves, poles, nets and other gear to fish litter from the lake. Top “fishermen” were rewarded with a TV, DVDs, theater tickets and toys.
Which begs the question: Were participants disappointed if they caught a fish?
