Macon, Ga., Short On New Trash Cans
Macon, Ga. — Approximately 700 Macon, Ga., residents are on the waiting list for a new trash can, according to a report in the Macon Telegraph. "The city has no garbage cans to give new residents or those whose trash cans are falling apart. Macon Public Works Director Dexter White said 800 residents have requested new garbage cans or repairs," according to the paper. "Although the city cannot fill the orders now, it will have 3,000 new trash cans in a few months. In addition, public works employees are in the process of collecting and redistributing 528 cans that were left at vacant houses or taken from unoccupied properties by neighbors, some of whom now have as many as five or six."
Residents without a can must buy their own or place their garbage in bags at the curb, which often allows rodents and dogs to get into the trash and scatter the material, according to the paper.
