U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer announced in a March 22, letter that his staff is finalizing legislation that would set route regulations for long-haul solid waste carrying trucks and trucks carrying hazardous waste, according to a report by New York newspaper.

The Auburn Citizen reports the legislation follows Schumer’s goal of getting garbage trucks off local roads and back on interstates. The proposed routes would apply to five-axle, single-trailer trucks hauling solid waste that travel on the National Highway network for more than 200 miles.
