NWRA Hosts Week-Long Safety Stand Down Initiative on Vehicle Backing

The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) is hosting a week-long training and awareness initiative called Safety Stand Down on Vehicle Backing.

The goal of the initiative is to reduce accidents, injuries and deaths related to truck backing incidents, and participating companies will receive daily advice as well as tools and support to reduce backing injuries.

“We are proud of the commitment our members make to raise the bar for safety in our industry. Through training, effective communications and heightened awareness, we are committed to making our industry safer,” said Darrell Smith, president and CEO of NWRA, in a statement.

Participation in the program involves conducting an internal risk assessment and review of backing policies and procedures, as well as making employees aware of the effort through information posted at facilities and on social media.
