Springfield, Fla., to Replace Waste Pro with Mr. Trash

After Waste Pro failed to pick up garbage from three streets in Springfield, Fla., last Tuesday, the city’s commission voted 3-1 to replace its current waste provider Waste Pro with Mr. Trash.

Before making this final decision, the City of Springfield had considering purchasing its own set of trucks, hiring its own staff members and running a citywide garbage service of its own. After reviewing finances, the city decided to scrap that idea and give a third party provider another shot, according to Commissioner Carl Curti.

Panama City News Herald has more details on Springfield’s new trash provider:

After months of complaining about garbage service, Springfield has decided to kick its current provider to the curb.

“We have for five years dealt with big companies and ain’t got nothing but the runaround,” said Commissioner Phillip Dykes. “I doubt they really care.”

During a special meeting Wednesday, the commission voted 3-1 to select Mr. Trash, a small company based in Springfield, as their new service provider. The commission also considered bids from current provider Waste Pro — who had missed three streets worth of garbage pickups the day before — and Nate’s Sanitation.
