Haverhill, Mass., Looks to Limit Truck Traffic

Having your house shaken early in the morning by the rumblings of passing trash trucks is nothing new for many residents of Salem Street in Bradford.

But city councilors are hoping to work with companies to lessen the impact of trucks hauling trash to Haverhill from other communities, or limit the trucks to state highways with laws similar to those used by other communities.

At a recent City Council meeting, David Van Dam, chief of staff to Mayor James Fiorentini, said trucking companies carrying trash to the Covanta company plant in Bradford use Salem Street because of road restrictions they face in neighboring communities.
