Lenawee County, Mich., to Hold Public Hearing for Updated Solid Waste Plan
Republic Services' updated plan includes four options for county commissioners to choose from.

A public hearing will be held today in Lenawee County, Mich., to discuss the county’s updated solid waste management plan.
The county’s waste management provider, Republic Services, has been working on an update to the plan since it closed its Adrian Landfill in September 2013. After two years of working on a proposed update, Republic adopted a draft document in February 2016 and has sent it out for public comment and a hearing.
The updated plan includes four options for county commissioners to choose from, and the public comment period will close on August 31.

Lenawee County residents will have a second opportunity Wednesday to comment on an updated countywide solid waste management plan.
A public hearing on the updated plan is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the old Lenawee County Courthouse, 301 N. Main St. It will be in the board of commissioners’ chambers on the second floor.
A change to the plan was needed after Republic Services closed its Adrian Landfill in September 2013. A landfill tipping fee was the main funding source for recycling and solid waste programs in the existing plan.
