Germantown, Tenn., will terminate its contract with garbage hauler Inland Waste Solutions a month earlier than scheduled and and transfer the business to Waste Pro of Tennessee. WastePro had won the contract in a competitive bid process this past winter.

The Commercial Appeal has the story:

Under the terms of the deal, Inland will relinquish its contract with no penalty. Waste Pro, which emerged as the clear winner in the city's competitive bid process this winter, has assured city staff it will have the necessary trucks, equipment and employees on board by June 1.

"There is one major condition," City Administrator Patrick Lawton said. "Instead of a 60-day grace period, we will provide them a 90-day grace period."

That means the new carrier will have an extra month to stabilize routes and learn routines before the city may assess penalties.

Waste Pro will pick up household garbage, recycling and yard debris. It will provide new 96-gallon carts and 64-gallon recycling bins for all customers. Delivery will start in mid-May.
