The city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, could be switching to a new hauler next fall.
A report to city officials is recommending the city award contracts for collection to Miller Waste Systems Inc. and GFL Environmental Inc.

The overall total cost to select the two lowest bidders would be about $24.7 million per year.
The contracts, if approved by council, will cover garbage, recyclables, yard waste and surplus waste from Oct. 1, 2017, to Jan. 31, 2025.
The report also suggests the city’s public service enter into discussions with the Canadian Union of Public Employees to determine if city staff can also provide garbage and recycle collection at a cost comparable to the private sector.
