Peoria Disposal Enters Processing of Recyclables with Buy of Midland Davis Unit

Peoria Disposal Co. (PDC) moved into recycling processing with the acquisition of Midland Davis Corp.’s Pekin recycling division and facility.

Peoria, Ill.-based PDC’s affiliate Area Recycling Inc. (ARI) purchased the recycling operation in Pekin, Ill., for an undisclosed amount. Moline, Ill.-based Midland Davis sold its Pekin division because of the recent downturn in recycling commodities, according to a news release.

“This acquisition makes our company a fully integrated service provider in the waste industry,” said PDC Vice President Matt Coulter. “Our family-owned business has had a long term goal of becoming a recycling processor. The recycling industry as a whole is struggling right now. This is a strategic investment at the right time.”

The facility sits on 15 acres in Pekin, and it includes an administrative office and processing facility. The processing facility has baling and sorting systems.

Area Recycling is retaining the Midland Davis personnel that currently operate the facility.

PDC and its sister company, Area Disposal Service Inc., serves residential, commercial and industrial customers throughout central Illinois and the Midwest.

The Illinois waste and recycling company has been active this year. In November Area Disposal purchased Casali and Sons Disposal, a residential and commercial hauler based in Bloomington, IlI. The acquisition added residential and commercial customers in the Bloomington and Normal areas of Illinois.

In March Area Disposal acquired Captain Hook Inc., an Illinois waste roll-off container business. Captain Hook is based in Peoria and serves that area and other central Illinois regions. It provides roll-off containers for construction, remodeling, roofing and recycling customers.

Also, PDC purchased Melton Trucking Service, based in Groveland, Ill. Melton Trucking provides commercial frontload container service in Illinois for the city of Peoria and Tazewell County. It also provides container services for commercial businesses and recycling customers.
