Waste Connections to Acquire Alaska Waste

Waste Connections Inc. has entered into agreements to acquire the operations of Alaska Pacific Environmental Services Anchorage LLC and Alaska Green Waste Solutions LLC, together known as Alaska Waste. The Anchorage-based firm is the largest privately-owned solid waste services company in Alaska with total annual revenue of approximately $65 million, provides solid waste collection, recycling and composting services in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley, Fairbanks, the Kenai Peninsula and Kodiak Island.

"Alaska Waste provides us an attractive opportunity to enter multiple markets within a new state and with leading market shares,” said Waste Connections Chairman and CEO Ronald J. Mittelstaedt, in a press release. “Alaska's unique regulatory framework is somewhat of a hybrid between our existing markets in Washington and Montana. Alaska Waste has more than doubled its revenue over the past five years primarily through acquisitions and new sustainability initiatives, including recycling, composting and biodiesel refining."

The transaction remains subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approval and governmental consent. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2012. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
