Firefighters Smother Fire at Iowa City Landfill

 Crews from several Johnson County communities smothered a fire at the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center on Friday night. The Iowa City Fire Department was originally called out ot the landfill, located at 3900 Hebl Avenue SW, for a report of a grass fire shortly after 9:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters determined the fire was contained to garbage in a small area of the landfill. Landfill employees as well as the Hills, Tiffin and North Liberty Fire Departments used resources to help smother the fire.
