Kalispell, Mt., Landfill Fire Attracts Hundreds of Spectators

A fire that began among discarded appliances, lawnmowers and bicycles at a landfill north of Kalispell sent a column of black smoke into the air that could be seen for miles.

Authorities were investigating the cause of the fire, which started at about 2 p.m. Sunday at the Flathead County Solid Waste Facility along U.S. Highway 93.
