Fairfield, N.J.-based Covanta Holding Corp. has completed the first stage of its acquisition of most of Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp.’s waste-to-energy (WTE) business.
Included in the first phase of the deal are operating contracts for a transfer station in Abington, Pa., and WTE facilities in Long Beach, Calif.; Dutchess, N.Y.; Islip, N.Y.; Montgomery, Pa.; York, Pa.; and Vancouver, Canada.
Covanta expects to close on the rest of the Veolia acquisition by the end of the year, after the company finalizes the purchase of a contract to operate a WTE facility in Miami-Dade County, Fla.
