EPA Scientist to Be Keynote Speaker at GRRN’s Recycling Conference

Joshuah Stolaroff, the principal author of an U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report stating that consumer products and packaging account for 44 percent of the this country’s greenhouse gas emissions, will be the keynote speaker at an upcoming conference held by the GrassRoots Recycling Network (GRRN).

GRRN’s Third National Recycling and Zero Waste Conference will take place from Oct. 18 through Oct. 21 in Devens, Mass. Stolaroff will appeart at the conference’s opening plenary session, entitled “How Waste Can Cool the Planet.”

According to a press release, “The conference is expected to attract over 400 recycling activists and professionals from around the country. The four-day event includes 20 separate programs and 60 speakers who will emphasize nuts and bolts examples of how to reach waste reduction goals which participants can take back to their communities.”

“This conference will energize the recycling and environmental community and help environmental professionals and activists implement new ideas and practices that will create jobs while at the same time reducing waste and conserving natural resources,” said Linda Christopher, GRRN’s executive director, in a press release. “Zero waste programs build sustainable communities by reducing the waste that produces greenhouse gases and toxic chemicals which are so harmful to our environment and account for major climate change impacts.”
