Pennsylvania DEP Cites 72 Trash Trucks

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection cited 72 trash trucks for operational and safety violations during recent inspections at landfills in Allegheny, Somerset and Westmoreland counties.

“These inspections ensure that trash haulers are working to comply with the commonwealth’s environmental regulations,” said DEP Southwest Regional Director George Jugovic in a press release. “Taking the time to do so improves safety on our roads. For example, an overweight vehicle is not as readily able to put on its brakes and stop as is one that is loaded within the legal limits.”

State inspectors look for infractions such as fire extinguisher violations, drivers not properly managing waste during transportation, leaking trucks, improper covers over the waste, overweight and overloaded trucks, and log book or record-keeping violations.
