Republic Services says accidents involving firm employees decreased 18 percent during the summer of 2009 when compared with the same period in 2008.

According to a company press release, Republic “launched its 101 Days of Summer safety campaign in June to raise the level of awareness toward safety from Memorial Day to Labor Day, a time of year when the industry has historically seen an increase in accidents and injuries.”

“We are committed to safety,” said Shawn Mandel, Republic safety manager, in a press release. “The safety of our employees, their families, the safety of the communities we serve and the safety of other drivers and pedestrians out on the road are major priorities for us.”
