The Solid Waste Association of North America’s (SWANA) Silver Spring, Md., office has received recognition from Montgomery County, Md.’s Green Business Certification Program. According to a SWANA press release, the program “is designed to recognize businesses and other entities that have taken voluntary steps in their business operations to protect, preserve and improve the environment.”

“SWANA has been a leader in advancing environmentally sound solid waste management in North America”, said John H. Skinner, executive director and CEO of SWANA, in a press release. “We are proud to be certified by Montgomery County for our achievements in our office operations.”

SWANA’s recent efforts to decrease energy consumption at its Silver Spring office include the reduction of in-house servers from 15 to 6 and the replacement of all CRT monitors with low-power LCD screens.
