Mobile, Ala., Delays Approval of Single Stream Recycling Again
The week postponement will allow more time for the city’s Solid Waste Authority to weigh in on the proposed recycling plan.

In April, the Mobile, Ala., City Council reviewed Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s proposed single stream recycling plan and two recycling contracts, which raised concerns that the proposed plan could lead to legal difficulty between Mobile’s Solid Waste Authority and the city’s hauler Waste Management.
Last month, the vote on the proposed recycling plan was postponed until June 20 to allow more time for the concerns to be clarified. Now, the decision on the proposed recycling plan has been postponed yet again. The week postponement will allow more time for the city’s Solid Waste Authority to weigh in on the proposed recycling plan.

An approval of two contracts altering how residents in Alabama's fourth-largest city recycle, are on hold for one more week.
But that isn't preventing Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson's administration from pushing forward on "single-stream" recycling, which had not been available to Mobile residents until recent months.
In a news release, the administration said the city has opened a new single-stream recycling center in west Mobile. The recycling allows patrons to put all recyclables - paper, glass, aluminum cans, plastics, etc. - into a single hopper.
