The city of Rio Rancho, N.M., recently entered a new 10-year agreement with Waste Management of New Mexico, which comes at a higher price tag that customers are upset about paying.
The city’s previous rate for trash collection was just shy of $14 a month, but with the new agreement, customers are now paying $16.70. The new agreement comes with services that weren’t offered before, including glass recycling, e-waste recycling and household hazardous waste pickup. But while these new services are good for the environment, residents feel they may not be worth the additional cost.

Rio Rancho residents are slowly noticing with the new year comes to a bigger price tag on trash pickup.
This is after the city entered into a new agreement with a waste management company that some residents aren’t too happy about.
Residents just got their first bills of the new year and they’re not convinced additional services in this new contract are worth the extra dollars they’re paying.
