San Benito, Texas, Proposes Cutting Garbage Truck Travel in Half
With the proposal, the city is suggesting that residents place their trash bins on one side of the street for Tuesday collection services and on the other side of the street for Friday collection services.
In response to residents’ complaints about poor street conditions, Manuel De La Rosa, the city manager of San Benito, Texas, recently met with its hauler Republic Services to discuss a proposal that could cut the company’s garbage trucks’ travel in half and save some wear and tear on city streets.
With the proposal, the city is suggesting that residents place their trash bins on one side of the street for Tuesday collection services and on the other side of the street for Friday collection services.

San Benito officials want to know if garbage trucks can cut down on travel across city streets.
On Thursday, City Manager Manuel De La Rosa met with Republic Services to discuss a proposal that could slash the company’s garbage trucks’ travel in half.
Under its contract, Republic Services picks up residents’ garbage twice per week — on Tuesdays and Fridays. As in other cities, heavy garbage trucks are being blamed for helping to tear up city streets.
