After two years of picking up yard waste and trash together, Waste Management, the city of Omaha, Neb.’s waste contractor, will begin phasing back in the practice of picking up yard waste separately from trash.

With the transition, which will end by June 5, all residential yard waste will be sent to the Papillion Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant to be composted instead of Douglas County’s Pheasant Point Landfill.

All the yard waste across the city of Omaha will start going to a compost facility once again next month.

Mayor Jean Stothert announced earlier this year that city contractor Waste Management would start phasing back in the practice of picking up yard waste separately from trash.

For two years Stothert had allowed Waste Management to pick up trash and yard waste together because a shortage of drivers was causing delays.
