Washoe County, Nev., Expands Single Stream Recycling

Washoe County, Nev., commissioners approved an agreement that will expand Waste Management's single stream recycling to additional areas.

Waste Management will deliver new carts to residents. The deal also expands access to the county’s transfer station and landfill.

Residents would also have the chance to include 50 pounds or six bags of garbage during the months of May and November.

The franchise fee will increase from 5 to 6 percent as of May 2017 under the new agreement, then to 7 percent the next May of 2018 and 8 percent in May 2019.

The contract would not change current commercial services, and it gives the county a review period after two years.
