The City of Baltimore is experiencing a large backload of trash throughout the city. To address the situation, the city is suspending curbside recycling starting August 31.
Residents are being encouraged to drop off their recycling at community collection centers.
What’s caused the problem? The pandemic has increased the amount of waste in the city, sanitation employees have contracted the virus and others are out of work due to self-isolation, some employees had to take leave due to heat-related illnesses, a shortage of employees and contractor trucks that are too large to fit down the city’s narrow streets.
