Milpitas Seeks Bids on Garbage and Recycling Collection, Disposal

City of Milpitas has issued a request for proposals for its solid waste, recycling and street sweeping services, which could change a long-standing relationship with its solid waste handler, Republic Services of Santa Clara County.

Leslie Stobbe, the city's public information specialist, said the city sent out its formal proposals request on July 2.

City of Milpitas is looking at two main areas and potentially separate agreements -- disposals and collection, according to Stobbe. Disposal is landfill burial while collection includes the basic service the city has now and adds separate items for additional recyclables and varying sized trash carts.
