SAN FRANCISCO --Generate, a leading investor and operator of diversified, sustainable infrastructure, today announced the hiring of waste industry veteran Bill Caesar. He will help lead and expand Generate’s operations in the broad range of waste-to-value segments critical to building a more sustainable future.

“The linear approach to extracting, using and disposing of our natural resources is undergoing an important and necessary transition to a more circular, efficient, and sustainable model,” said Scott Jacobs, chief executive officer and co-founder of Generate. “We have seen this transition in other areas of energy and resources, driven by the compelling economic value propositions offered to customers. In order to achieve better land use, create a more productive reuse of materials and mitigate climate change, we must build smart, sustainable, affordable waste management infrastructure across the United States – a multi-billion-dollar opportunity we are excited to continue leading. Bill’s deep expertise in the waste sector and his extensive leadership experience will enable Generate to significantly expand our presence in the sector and accelerate our global, multi-generational impact.”

Bill Caesar brings decades of experience in waste management and recycling, corporate strategy and innovation. His most recent position was as Chief Executive Officer of WCA Waste Corporation, a vertically integrated, non-hazardous solid-waste and recycling services company based in Houston, Texas that was acquired by GFL Environmental in 2020 for $1.2 billion. Prior to this role, he held several positions with Waste Management (WM) Inc. He joined WM in 2010 as the Chief Strategy Officer and in 2012 became the President of WM Recycling and the WM Organic Growth Group, where he led the industry-leading recyclable materials business for Waste Management and oversaw its portfolio of early-stage technology and services investments. Prior to joining WM, he was a principal in the Atlanta office of McKinsey & Company, where he advised clients across a broad spectrum of industries, including waste management, on corporate strategy, growth, performance improvement, sales and pricing.

Over the last six years, Generate has built more than 2,000 sustainable infrastructure assets across the energy, waste, water and transport markets, establishing market leadership in areas including battery storage; community, commercial and industrial solar; energy efficiency; electric vehicles; fuel cells; wastewater treatment; distributed desalination; and organic waste management.

Generate’s growing network of bio-digester facilities is collectively one of the largest processors of organic waste in North America. Generate facilities process 276,500 tons of food waste a year, turning organic material into renewable natural gas, fertilizer and 7.4 million kilowatt hours of electricity that powers the equivalent of nearly 10,000 homes a year.
