The Taunton Recycling Center in Taunton, England will remain closed indefinitely after the facility caught fire earlier this month.

Fire Rescue Services were called to the facility on October 3 to treat a fire in an area of the facility that is usually closed to the public. The Somerset Council has said that the site will remain closed until the facility is made safe or demolished.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and it’s said that there is still a very small fire continuing to burn, according to the council.

Residents are encouraged to take their materials to other area recycling facilities. The Wellington and Bridgeater recycling centers will continue to operate seven days a week. Staff from Taunton have been redeployed to offer extra support at other sites.

"I want to thank residents for their patience and understanding. We are sorry that you cannot access the site yet,” said Councillor Dixie Darch. "Teams are working hard to find the best way to make the site safe, but please bear with us while plans are put in place to reopen."
