Keeping in line with its commitment to sustainability, the Paris 2024 Olympics have revealed its torch which is made from recycled steel.

To reduce the carbon footprint of the 2,000 torches produced for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the torch for the 2024 games is made up of recycled steel.

“Designing the Torch for the Games is a designer’s dream, one that comes around once in a lifetime, like an extraordinary encounter with history,” Lehanneur said. “Ritualistic and magical in equal measure, the Torch is a mythical object. A symbol of cohesion and sharing, it really does play a key role in the Games.”

This action is in line with other efforts that the Paris 2024 Olympics are taking to promote sustainability and lower its carbon footprint. The 2024 Olympics have already committed to using recycled plastic for its chairs at the games.

The 2024 Olympics are also monitoring its CO2 emissions and plan to cut those emissions in half for the next set of games. To do this, the event will go without air conditioning and will instead use an underground water-cooling system to keep athletes cool.

The 2024 Olympic torch was inspired by three themes: equality, water, and peacefulness.
