Cornerstone Chemical Company and Louisiana State University (LSU) came together for a record-breaking recycling effort earlier this year.
During the LSU vs Florida game, played at LSU on November 11, over 21,000 items were collected for recycling, equating to 1,370 pounds of recyclables. This successful recycling day comes in support of the GameDay Recycling Challenge and America Recycles Day.
Items were collected from Tiger’s Stadium (LSU’s football stadium) and around the college campus. Recyclables were sorted with the help of student organizations such as Geaux Green, and staff from the Osprey Initiative. Afterward, recyclables were taken to the Baton Rouge Coca-Cola facility to be repurposed for reusable bottles.
“There were noticeable reductions in trash with fans utilizing recycling bins available at designated locations, and this seemed to contribute to happier fans and an even more positive game day experience,” said Lisa Mahoney, LSU’s Sustainability program manager. "We hope the success of this effort will be a steppingstone for greater efforts of recycling and waste reduction for LSU game day events.”
