The Pipestone County Commissioners in Pipestone, Minn., voted in a recent meeting to adopt a single stream recycling system for the county that would allow residents to recycle without sorting materials.

The county received recycling proposals from four different companies last fall, and Commissioner Luke Johnson says that the county will likely move forward with a plan with either Van Dyke Sanitation of Edgerton or Waste Connections of Worthington.

The county currently has a contract with Van Dyke Sanitation for residential recycling services that would end at the end of 2018, but a single stream system could be adopted in the summer if the county continues with Van Dyke.

Pipestone Star has more information:

Pipestone County plans to negotiate for the exact services and cost with Van Dyke Sanitation of Edgerton, which Commissioner Luke Johnson, who is on the solid waste committee, said “has the lowest cost overall,” based on the proposals. If those negotiations don’t yield a contract, the board plans to negotiate with Waste Connections of Worthington.

The county board plans to include in the contract curbside pick-up of recyclables in all cities in the county and the ability to put all recyclables together in one 96-gallon container that the county will provide. Currently, curbside pick up is only offered in Pipestone, Edgerton, Jasper and Ruthton. Another new service the county plans to include is the collection of recyclables from businesses.
