Rumpke is expanding the list of items that residents can throw in their recycling bins for collection now that the company is joining a new program.
Rumpke, a waste collection company that services commercial and residential customers, is joining the Hefty ReNew program that will allow Rumpke customers to collect items that Rumpke currently can’t take on its own. Until now, Rumpke could only accept bottles, jugs, tubs, and certain types of drink cups.
“Now we can take them all, as well as all those plastic wraps," says Molly Yeager, corporate communications manager. "We'll be able to take your Styrofoam, your plastic utensils. We will take your plastic containers, your plastic film. ...When you open a bag of frozen vegetables and you have that bag and you're like, 'What can I do with this bag?' you're now going to be able to recycle it."
To participate in the new program, customers will need to put forth a little extra effort. The expanded items will need to be separated into a special orange Hefty ReNew bag. Hefty sells the bags in boxes of 20 and can be found in Kroger and other retail stores as soon as next month.
"If you're wanting to recycle these other plastics, we need you to purchase this Hefty bag and put those plastics in this Hefty bag. That way we can contain it. We can pull it off the line at the recycling facility, and we can get it to that end user that can it turn into a new and useful item."
