Two of England’s top recycling districts have announced to extend a joint contract with waste collector, Biffa, for two more years.

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District are near the top of the English recycling tables and have had this success for more than a decade now. The service is something to celebrate as well, as a survey reports that 82% of residents have expressed satisfaction with the service Biffa provides.

Biffa has had a contract with South Oxfordshire for 14 years and Vale of White Horse for 13. In that time frame, recycling rates have climbed to 64% and 63% in South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse in 2023. Both districts placed in the top five of the top ten recycling authorities in England ranking.

The extended contract ends in June 2026.

“Our joint contract extension with Biffa is reassuring news. This partnership has been successful over the last 14 years – and I’m proud of the fact it has enabled us to be one of the top recycling areas in the country. We now have work ahead of us to create our new waste strategy – which will aim to further this good work and enable us to raise the bar on our goal to be a carbon neutral district,” said Sue Cooper, South Oxfordshire District Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment.
