Pratt Institute Students Rethink Packaging for NYCxDESIGN Exhibit

For NYCxDESIGN, New York City’s official design week, students of Pratt Institute teamed with the New York State Department of Environment Conservation (DEC) to create an exhibit that highlights possible solutions for reducing waste, eliminating single-use packages for take-out meals, plastic alternatives, marine-friendly packaging and effective systems for packaging and transporting take-out food.

The exhibit, The Future of Take-Out, explores a reusable carryout container that could eliminate the need for plastic take-out containers, a plastic bag replacement and more.

It may be raining but there are still throngs of people milling around New York City’s Times Square, no matter the weather or the hour. Which makes it that much more interesting the Design Pavilion, an annual public design event that takes place during New York City’s official design week NYCxDESIGN, is the perfect place to use design to exhibit solutions to some of our most global pressing issues.

Among the designs open to the public between May 12-20 was the Pratt Institute’s The Future of Take-Out, an exhibition of student solutions done through a unique collaboration with the New York State Department of Environment Conservation (DEC).
