The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Silver Spring, Md., has announced its support of President Bush’s plan for alternative energy sources. According to a press release issued by the organization, the Advanced Energy Initiative mentioned in the president’s Jan. 31 State of the Union address, calls for the use of “more reliable energy sources” and continued research in alternative energy sources used to power homes, offices and automobiles. “We encourage the president and Congress to fully recognize landfill gas and waste-to-energy as cleaner, renewable fuel sources as part of the Advanced Energy Initiative,” says SWANA executive director and CEO John H. Skinner.
