Waste Management Inc. has purchased Ohio waste and recycling firm Big O Refuse LLC for an undisclosed amount.

Waste Management acquired the Newark, Ohio-based Big O to give it the largest waste and recycling operation in the region, according to an e-mail from the Houston-based company. Big O provides a full range of recycling and waste collection services for residential, commercial and industrial customers.

The two companies will merger operations in the next 90 days, to maintain current customer service. The majority of Big O employees will join Waste Management.

Big O operates in eight counties. It serves 5,000 households in Newark, with 42 employees there.
