Chicago To Use RecycleBank Program in Certain Areas

Chicago officials have announced that the city will use the RecycleBank program in Wards 5, 8 and 19. The RecycleBank program awards households for recycling by giving them credits that can be redeemed at number of national retail chains and locally owned stores. The more a household recycles, the more points it earns.

Phase One of the Chicago-RecycleBank program calls for approximately 10,000 households in the three wards to participate. Once the Phase One field test is complete, the program will be implemented in all of the 38,000 households in the three wards.

“Through education, community outreach and the use of our Recycling Block Captain Program, we are confident that we will see great results with RecycleBank,” said Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley in a press release. “It’s important that residents understand that they must do their part when it comes to recycling and preserving resources.”
