Rumpke Landfill Expansion Approved

Cincinnati-based Rumpke Consolidated Cos. has received approval from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to expand its Brown County Landfill. The expansion, although scaled back from Rumpke's original proposal, will add 153 acres to the landfill and allow it to accept as much as 3,000 tons of waste each day.

"Given the concern in the community regarding this large landfill expansion request, I commend Rumpke for scaling back its plans," said Chris Korleski, director of the Ohio EPA, in a press release. "These permits give the company considerable room to meet future waste disposal needs while providing a larger buffer between the landfill and nearby school."
