WCA Waste Reports Second-Quarter Results

Houston-based WCA Waste Corp. has posted a net income of $2.9 million on revenues of $52.7 million for second-quarter 2008, compared to a net income of $2.6 million on revenues of $46.2 million for the same quarter 2007.

For the year, WCA reports a net income of $524,000 on revenues of $101.6 million, compared to a net income of $3.9 million on revenues of $86.8 million for the first half of 2007.

The company claims rising fuel costs impacted its bottom line. “The 14.2 percent revenue growth WCA experienced led to record quarterly revenue of $52.7 million,” said Tom Fatjo, chairman of WCA, in a press release. “Factored in the revenue growth was a decline in volume of 2 percent, an increase in pricing of 4 percent, fuel surcharge of 3.8 percent and 8.4 percent from acquisitions. In addition, our operating income improved 5.8 percent despite a higher fuel expense.”
