There’s a new door-to-door service for residents in the East Bay area of California that is helping homes recycle items that are outside of typical curbside collections.

The company, Ridwell, visits homes that sign up for the service. Ridwell accepts materials that usually can’t be thrown in with the usual curbside recycling, such as batteries, certain Amazon packaging, and frozen food bags.

Customers simply gather materials in a bag, place them in a box outside their home then a driver for Ridwell will pick up the recycling. From there, Ridwell sorts and distributes the materials to local non-profit organizations to be recycled.

“…Picking up stuff for a local non-profit, so whether that’s pots and pans, silverware, pet leashes, and harnesses, that would be the sort of stuff we’re picking up…” said Gerrine Pan, BP of Partnerships, Ridwell.

“In addition, there are other hard-to-recycle items like Styrofoam that can be picked up for an additional fee.”

Ridwell memberships start at $14.
