SBWMA to Build New MRF and Expand Transfer Station
September 10, 2009
The San Mateo County, Calif.-based South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) is set to build a new materials recovery facility (MRF) and expand a transfer station. Last week, the authority closed the sale of $53.5 million in tax-exempt solid waste revenue enterprise bonds. SBWMA also paid off existing tax-exempt debt of $13.7 million more than 10 years early.
SBWMA will use the net proceeds from the sale of the new debt along with a $3 million loan to “transform the existing Shoreway Recycling and Disposal Center in San Carlos into the new Shoreway Environmental Center,” according to a press release.
The project will include the construction of a new 70,200-square-foot MRF and a 14,780-square-foot expansion of the site’s existing transfer station. The entire project should be completed by spring 2011, SBWMA says.
